[syslinux] pxelinux 4.04 - keyboard not working?

I've just now tried with 4.04 again - no input is accepted from the
keyboard, after a few keystrokes, I get the buffer full beep.  

Does the name of the file specified in the dhcp config matter: 

filename "pxelinux.1"

For testing, I used "pxelinux404.0".
