I would suggest using the official binary files already included in
Syslinux 4.07 "as-is", without re-building them.
I would suggest taking all needed files from version 4.07
(isolinux.bin, any c32 module, ldlinux.sys, isohybrid, whatever else
needed) to build the ISO image again, anew, replacing any component
you have kept from prior Syslinux versions. When building the new ISO
image, use cdrtools 3.01a17 from "Slackware -current" (which has
mtools 4.0.18 too), and then apply isohybrid 4.07 (from the official
Syslinux 4.07, not re-built) on the new ISO image.
I tend to think that the best way to test your case is to use all
Syslinux components from the same official Syslinux 4.07, instead of
rebuilding the components and/or mixing different versions of
isolinux.bin and isohybrid.
