Windows Vista \ Windows 7 Install Booting

I created my wiki account to add this detail to this page or a guide, but seeing how the article is fairly complete, I'll just throw it on this talk page (it may be assumed\obvious, but stating it explicitly should help future web searchers).

When using chain.c32 to load vista\win7's BOOTMGR from a USB [flash|stick|drive] (or a CD I suppose, haven't tryed PXE (well, I don't remember the details...actually -- it involved PXE booting a WinPE then invoking setup)), all that is required it having the contents of the CD \ ISO on the root of the media (I used an SD card, with is just presented as a USB Mass Storage Device). I have not tryed setupldr.bin or ntldr, and I quite like the idea of chaining GRLDR. --PidGin128 00:08, 25 February 2010 (PST)

  • I think this would be rather nice to include either as a section on this page, or on a separate page. Sounds useful indeed. hpa 16:23, 25 February 2010 (PST)
I was in the process of adding an example, when my machine powered off unexpectedly. I forgot to plug it in, and ubuntu9.10's live environment wasn't too helpful in reminding me of that, as the battery dwindled. MediaWiki needs an automatic draft feature (It was shortly after I edited the page, and it put me off for a bit). --- I use software like syslinux seasonally it seems, I get really involved in customizing my boot media, and then years go by, and I have to learn it all over again, heh. --PidGin128 19:41, 25 February 2010 (PST)
Well, it turns out this wiki has quite a few different locations of howtos and whatnot, so I added some links there instead. I'll my example to the appropriate page, and link back to this article. on another note, do you have a way to suggest pages for deletion? or just a page for general suggestions to the wiki (for cases where elevated privs are required)? if no place exists, I'll elaborate here.
