[syslinux] looking for info using memdisk to load an image via pxe

There is no problem to that: Simply configure PXELINUX accordingly. We
at some time did the same using Memdisk and a 250Mb disk image... (lots
of dots, but it worked)
The only thing to say is that the file gets transferred via TFTP this
way. I don't know how badly tftp can behave...

That I didn't do, but I do know about a 3com universal Undi Ndis driver.
 I don't think that it is freely available (but since it seems to be
discontinued, you might get a hold of it somewhere)
That one can be used together with LanManger- or MS-Client to "mount" a
SMB Network-share. Performance will rather be bad, and as I said, I
never tried to get the driver or even get it to work...

I'd say that transferring the Image via TFTP (done automatically by
PXELINUX) is the easiest approach.

What Memdisk image you boot doesn't matter. If you use Memdisk and <some
working image> it should work. If it doesn't then this is your place to
ask...
