Just a thought on the issues I've been having with the init= argument being
passed to the kernel. The default argument is /sbin/init so I made a copy of
the static bash executable and called it init and moved it to /sbin. It
still doesn't boot unless I specify init=/sbin/init manually.

why could this be happening?
