In the old release, P and N acted as the arrow keys, Ctrl-P and Ctrl-N
acted as PgUp, PgDn.
In -pre19, Ctrl-P and Ctrl-N act as arrow keys, and P and N are hotkeys.
It sounds like you have a massive problem with losing characters. Are
you using serial console?
