We have been using pxelinux 1.62 for quite a while with great success Our
machines
are old Super-Micro rackmounts (PIII 1.4 GHz) and IBM x335.
We recently acquired some IBM x336 servers with an updated Broadcom network
adapter
(compared to the x335). I couldn't get them to boot with pxelinux 1.62. The
UNDI pxe
envirenment would start, get an IP Address, locate the TFTP server, download
the
appropriate kernel and initrd and then would freeze at the "Booting Kernel"
prompt.
Booting an older machine works fine though. I switched the pxelinux.0 loader
from
1.62 to 3.07 and now all machines are booting correctly but with a glitch:
On the x335 and x336 there is some garbage that appears on the screen between
the
dots following the "Loading Image" prompt and the "Ready" Prompt.
Here is a simulated "screen shot" where the XXXX represents the garbage:
[...]
Loading kernel-2.4.20-8-pcfarm-slave....................................
Loading
slave-initrd.gz............................................................
.............................................................................
......
.............................................................................
......
...............................XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXReady.
Uncompressing Linux .... OK, Booting the Kernel
[...]
Everything is working great besides that. Should I be worried?
Thanks!
