[syslinux] extlinux "boot failed" on older (pentium 3) motherboards

I first tried it with syslinux 2.13, which worked fine.
Then I tried it with syslinux 3.00, and I get the exact same:
Boot failed
message like I did before. So it would appear this is something that
cropped up in 3.x, and doesn't directly have to do with extlinux.
It probably doesn't matter, but there are 2 different types of
motherboards that use two different chipsets (one is an asus cusl2-c with
815 chipset, and the other two are asus cubx-e with 440bx chipsets), so it
would not appear to be isolated to one specific bios version.
