Related to Etherboot, I would add the excellent floppy of Alexander Heinz:
http://etherboot.anadex.de/

It allows you to install a small partition on the hdd (8MB) or to boot 
from the floppy.
I've used both methods (boot from floppy and boot from hdd) with Dell 
machines and it is working perfectly.
