It's 80x25 in text mode and 80x30 in graphics mode (VGA text mode is 
720x400.)

It's not hardcoded, though; it's controlled by the BIOS.

If you load a different font, e.g. an 8x8 font, you get more lines; an 
8x8 font gives you 80x50 in text mode and 80x60 in graphics mode.
