With the CLI TFTP client want did you fetch
/debian-installer/ia64/elilo.efi
debian-installer/ia64/elilo.efi
or
elilo.efi
?

The 'M-^?' in
| [udp sum ok] 50 RRQ "/debian-installer/ia64/elilo.efiM-^?" octet tsize 0
looks indeed odd.
The "hexdump"
| 0x0030: 6961 3634 2f65 6c69 6c6f 2e65 6669 ff00 ia64/elilo.efi..
revails a 0xff. Is the 0xff also there on the CLI session?
