There will generally be two approaches.  The first is to recut whatever
image you are using to remove files from it etc.  The second approach is
to get the files as needed after boot such as by using an NFS mounted root.

As an example of the latter, I have a PXE boot setup for the Ubuntu DVD.
 Although some of my machines have more than 4GB of memory it isn't a
very practical way of doing things.  Instead I do this:
