The INT 22h API gets access to the filesystem, not to arbitrary disks.

I had never even heard of gfxboot until I started getting bug reports 
about it.

By the time I first heard about it, gfxboot was already an apparent fait 
accompli, out there running binary bytecode blobs, by your own admission 
completely undocumented.  The code was hardly elucidative, either. What 
kind of feedback were you either soliciting or just plain expecting?
