Now, I think Micro$oft has a PXE boot program which basically mimics 
that behaviour -- if it boots off the network, it gives you some time to 
press F12 and otherwise boots the local disk.

Personally, I think vesamenu with a timeout (and possibly the hidden 
option) is a lot nicer...
