THere _IS_ no change to the RPM format. Y'all (and LSB) are fooling
yourselves and fussing needlessly.

To install a *.src.rpm "portably" (i.e. without RPM), use the attached
rpm2cpio.sh script, invoked in the usual way
	rpm2cpio *.src.rpm | cpio -dim

The Debian Borg has managed to deal with *.src.rpm's
in spite of not using RPM at all. So can you.

All that needs doing is inserting a decompressor as appropriate.

But see this link
	https://lists.rpm.org/pipermail/rpm-maint/2010-March/002692.html
if you _REALLY_ want to see where future mischief with *.rpm lies.
Not that anyone not currently resident in an Institute for the Criminally Insane
has any need for single files >4Gb in *.rpm packaging, but @rpm.org is
clearly attempting future proofing "just in case".
