I'm not sure I understand what that has to do with the media bytes in 
the boot sector.  Could you be interested in changing those bytes?  You 
could use 'bvi' or some other hex-editor, perhaps.  You could share your 
boot-sector with:

   dd if=/dev/sdb of=bootsect.bin count=1
   hexdump -C bootsect.bin > bootsect.txt

The bytes I'm thinking of are in my other e-mail.
