[syslinux] 1 model out of a dozen hangs at "loading boot sector... booting..."

I added 'raw' to the memdisk entry and now the HP 6005 Pro SFF is working. We are going to retest everything else to make sure but I quickly tested a HP 2540p laptop and a Dell Optiplex 380 and both worked so I am hopeful.

Is there any reason not to use the 'raw' option?

Thanks for all of your help!

Entry in menu is:

#---
 LABEL ipxe
MENU LABEL iPXE HTTP ^Test Menu
 MENU PASSWD <removed>
 KERNEL http://172.16.0.8/gpxe/memdisk-4.04
 INITRD http://172.16.0.8/gpxe/images/itcpe114.dd.gz

gPXE is referenced as that is what I was initially testing back around June/July of last year and have not bothered to modify the webserver as it is not necessary. gPXE seems to be an essentially dead project that has forked into (been replaced by) iPXE. Hopefully iPXE will be included in Syslinux in the future as gPXE is/was.

The ipxelinux.0 file was provided to me by one of the developers. Thread is here: http://forum.ipxe.org/showthread.php?tid=20&pid=52#pid52

I have not tried any of the modifiers for MEMDISK as I am not familiar with them and have not needed them up to this point. I will look into testing that tomorow.

On almost a dozen models tested now, everything works great. These were mostly laptops but a Dell Optiplex 360 and 380 booted fine. So far we have just had a problem with the HP 6005 Pro SFF desktop. With this model it hangs at "loading boot sector... booting...". This is using version 4.04.

Every version after that seems to allow the 2540p to boot. I thought maybe this information might prove useful in isolating what was changed in that version but maybe not. Every version I have tried with the 6005 has hung in the same spot.

Could you provide some details? What does your config look like?
What LABEL results in this behavior? Which driver/format of iPXE did
you use (a file of undionly.kkpxe indicates undionly driver and kkpxe
format)? If you're using MEMDISK, did you try any of the 3 other
memory access modifiers (see syslinux:doc/memdisk.txt; safeint is
default)?
