[syslinux] 1 model out of a dozen hangs at "loading boot sector... booting..."

There is only one MEMDISK image being loaded. It is just a winpe image that maps back to our image server and loads an HTA menu so that we can then do the real work. ;-)

Using the MAC address isn't really an option since we don't have that information ahead of time. These are not static machines. These are machines that we receive, configure, and then send on their way to never see again.

The model specific (or hopefully hardware id specific) option would be nice. I saw the other messages about the 'useful small set of system data' and I am looking forward to that.

Thanks for the input. The group of people on this list are very helpful.

Good day, Jeff.

You might not be able to generalize and use the same option everywhere;
different systems and different MEMDISK images may require different
options. Some details are provided in the section of the documentation
where you read about the existence of the 'raw' option.

Trial and error, perhaps. Or you could use client-specific
config-files, like this:

pxelinux.cfg/default
pxelinux.cfg/use_raw
pxelinux.cfg/01-00-24-ab-4f-56-5d (sym link -> use_raw)

where 'default' would invoke MEMDISK without the 'raw' option and
'use_raw' would be identical to 'default' but for using the 'raw'
option.

If you are using gPXE or iPXE, there are fancier things you can do, such
as download a specific config-file based on the computer model.

It also looks like some of this fancier stuff is coming into Syslinux.
