[syslinux] NTFS support?

I noticed that in the change log for syslinux 4.0.6, it mentioned:
* Support for NTFS, by Paulo Alcantara.
However, I can not find doc about this. Does this mean we can put
syslinux on NTFS partition? I tested it by running the command for the
NTFS partition (/dev/sda1).
However, it gave me this error:
root at debian:~# syslinux -f -i /dev/sda1
No directory slots
syslinux: failed to create ldlinux.sys
Anyone has idea about this?
Thanks.
Steven.
