For what is worth:
At http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/Testing/4.10/
is a newer 4.10 avaiable.  Quoting hpa's announce message:

| I just pushed out Syslinux 4.10-pre21.  This prerelease version fixes
| gPXE virtio support... again, if you have had a system with problems on
