[syslinux] Syslinux 5.01 does not respond to keyboard

I am having touble using the latest syslinux. I installed it to an SD
card and non-interactive booting works fine (using DEFAULT in
syslinux.cfg). If I need to give input to syslinux at boot time (via
menu, vesamenu or even just the prompt), it ignores keypresses.

Syslinux 4.06 does not suffer from this problem.

I am running an Acer Aspire One AOA150. The POST screen calls it an
Insyde H2OBIOS. Here is its BIOS information from dmidecode:
