[syslinux] syslinux 6.03pre17 + gpxelinux.0 + iso from http not working

Is there anything else I can try before I give up? I tried putting the verbosity of tftpd-hpa up to 9 but it's not giving me any extra clues. Can I make syslinux produce more verbose output of messages?
