Just a hunch: this might be related to gcc5+.

FWIW, Fedora 23 is out this week, and it includes (at least some) 
patches in its Syslinux package for (better) compatibility with gcc5+.

Unfortunately, Syslinux's package maintainers are usually not very 
active (for whichever reason), even less than the pace of upstream 
development.
