It evolved from an x86-only bootloader.  However, it had to be made
portable to support UEFI anyway, so it is basically portable now... it
just hasn't been actually *ported* to anything but x86 yet.

That being said, as in all porting efforts it is likely it will smoke
out some problems.

I don't forsee a huge problem porting to other littleendian platforms,
however.  The biggest pitfall might be that there are probably places
that assume that unaligned memory accesses are safe.
