Someone (I do know who, if it happens to be important) in irc #syslinux claims
that the commit:

 http://repo.or.cz/syslinux.git/commit/8dc6d758b564a1ccc44c3ae11f265d43628219ce

"ldlinux: Fix return pointer to local data"

should solve the problem.

I have not tested this claim myself, but I have no reason to doubt it.

Distributions (re)building Syslinux 6.03 with gcc5+ should patch their
respective packages with this commit, among several others [1].

Some of the distributions (and current packages) that were already having this
problem (and therefore are recommended to patch their packages [1] and rebuild
them) are:

_ ArchLinux and derivatives (6.03-6)
_ Debian (Testing+) and derivatives (6.03+dfsg-13)
_ Fedora 24+ (possibly prior releases too) and derivatives (6.03-8)

The distributions that might be affected by this issue are not limited to the
above list; the list just mentions some distributions that were somehow
"involved" in the report (with no relation to package maintainers). I am aware
of some additional ones that might be (or are) affected too.

Note: The following wiki page lists _only some_ of the building issues and
workarounds (e.g. some of the issues related to gcc are not included).

Ady.
