[syslinux] Syslinux statically linked?

Hi all,

is there a preset target somewhere or easy to activate to get a statically
linked syslinux executable on linux?

My target system might have an outdated libc which causes syslinux not to start
when dynamically linked against libc when trying to update the target system.
Shipping libc with the installer doesn't make sense for me because libc itself
is so large meanwhile that the installer size is close to doubled in size (even
with compression)...
My hope is that the statically linked syslinux + stripping does not increase the
overall size too much.
