You konw, it's just a thought, but, would it be easier for you to
seperate the modules from the releases?  You could then just update
the menu as you see fit when you want (as well as the other modules)
and make necessary changes to syslinux only when needed.

Oh well, just a thought.  Seems like it might simplify things for you,
but, then I'm not sure really.
