Speaking of mbinfo.boot_device (some time ago, but it's relationship
with "legacy GRUB"'s stage2's install_partition structure):
I see Sebastian's patch wasn't merged. H. Peter had a concern over
precision.
If some of chain.c32 gets librarized (such as the start in my
com32lib_disk branch), we could potentially do the right thing for this
assignment in mboot.c32, as Gert H. and Paul B. gave consideration to in
chain.c32.
Technically, I think Pierre's work in gpllib/ already could help to make
this happen for mboot.c32, in regards to a reverse-lookup of the
Syslinux FS. The licensing is different, though. Pierre and I spoke
about duplication of effort... I sort of thought that those portions in
gpllib/ that came from chain.c32 could be moved into com32/lib/syslinux/
with the licensing there (since the authors agree) and the remainder
could stay in gpllib/. Pierre seemed ok with this.
